Technicalities[edit | edit source]

As Mike Pohjola himself stated in the Rulebook, he expanded the Star Wreck Universe by parodying the Trek canon and Trek roleplaying games as much as he could.

According to rules, one player assumes the role of Game Master, describes the in-game world and how other players' decisions affect it, and also roleplays the supporting non-player characters. The other players can assume any desired role as guided by the Rulebook.

In contrast to ability scores that measure a character's strengths in traditional games, Star Wreck characters have 'Inability' Scores (Stupidity, Obliviousness, Clumsiness, Repulsiveness, and Weakness) that they have to overcome in order to succeed at a given task. As opposed to character classes, the game has four general archetypes that correspond to various characters from the movies. They are Incompetent Idiot (Captain Pirk), Annoying Nerd (Info), Frustrated Grouch (Lt. Swagger), and Psychotic Loud-mouth (Lt. Dwarf).

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • In 2006, Energia Productions released a compilation DVD, Star Wreck: Legacy, and as a cross-promotion, hired Mike Pohjola to create Star Wreck: The Role-Playing Game. Since the game would be released internationally, the decision was made to release it in English rather than Finnish.
  • It was first played at the Finnish game convention Ropecon in 2006, and was subsequently released for sale.
  • In 2006, Star Trek role-playing game designer Kenneth Hite called Star Wreck the second best licensed role-playing game of the year.
  • Since the mainline series began to move away from its Star Trek roots starting with 'In the Pirkinning', it is likely that the RPG is no longer considered canon. At the same time, as it was commissioned and published by Energia Productions - the official company for all things Star Wreck - the game might still be canon, although no longer relevant to the universe.
  • Albums Mike Pohjola listened to while writing the Star Wreck Roleplaying Game:
